Digital Public Health Surveillance
A new chapter of the digital epidemiology book is now available.
I’m delighted to announce the release of chapter 8 in the digital epidemiology book on digital public health surveillance.
The chapter covers a number of different data sources, such as search queries, access logs, social media, mobile phones, and wearables. It also covers participatory surveillance, which I consider one of the most important developments in this area. Two sections on the challenges of digital public health surveillance and its future close the chapter.
The section on mobile phones mostly focuses on phones as a source of location data. Phones can, of course, provide much more data than just location data. However, I already cover their role as general-purpose data sources in the section on participatory surveillance, and in a future chapter on digital health cohorts and trials.
I hope you will find this chapter insightful. If you find any mistakes, or have any suggestions for improvement, please let me know.
